As thousands of migrants are crossing the border on a daily basis, Customs and Border Patrol is being forced to shutdown three checkpoints in Willcox, AZ to bring personnel to assist in other high traffic areas.

“Tucson Sector has redirected manpower, based on operational needs in response to shifting traffic patterns, resulting in the closure of several tactical checkpoints in southeastern Arizona. We expect to re-open these checkpoints as manpower and activity levels dictate.” – CBP

The numbers from February just released this week from Customs and Border Patrol reflecting over 100,000 apprehensions. In addition over the past two weeks the number of children migrants in custody has tripled to more than 3,250 with at least 1,360 being held for longer than the allotted three days.

“This is exactly what happened to us in 2019 at the height of the crisis before we were able to get the tools, policies and authorities we needed to address it. We were shutting down lanes, we were pulling resources off what I referred to as our national security mission to deal with the humanitarian crisis.” – Mark Morgan, a former acting CBP commissioner

By being forced to shutdown these three checkpoints it leaves those areas open for smuggling. With no one there to patrol those areas the cartels have easier access to bring their goods into the United States.

The Biden Administration continues to deny that there is a crisis at the Southern Border. However on Monday an email was sent out by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas asking for volunteers to assist Border Patrol due to the, “overwhelming numbers” of migrants.

“In 2019, over 900 volunteers deployed to support their CBP colleagues during a similar migration surge. Please consider joining the Volunteer Force to again provide needed humanitarian support along the Southwest Border and relief for our CBP colleagues.” – Alejandro Mayorkas

“You have likely seen the news about the overwhelming numbers of migrants seeking access to this country along the Southwest Border. President Biden and I are committed to ensuring our Nation has a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system while continuing to balance all of the other critical DHS missions.” – Alejandro Mayorkas
