The Kansas House passed Republican sponsored House Bill 2058 by a vote of 85-38 last week. The bill was proposed by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt and seeks to recognize all out-of-state concealed carry permits, and allow those who have been licensed to carry a firearm for self-defense, to do so lawfully in Kansas.
This bill also allows individuals who are 18 to 20 years of age to apply for a Kansas concealed carry permit, and authorizes the attorney general to issue an alternative license to carry a concealed handgun to qualified applicants during a declared state of disaster emergency.
18-year-olds can already open carry in Kansas, this bill allows 18-20 year-olds to conceal carry after seeking a permit to undergo a background check and participate in safety training.
Kansas allows for carrying on college campuses, and advocates for the bill say it will make colleges more safe.
The bill is now headed to the Senate for a vote.
