As the death total from COVID-19 climbs over 2 million worldwide, countries, including America, are struggling to understand just where this deadly virus came from. Only one man, who happens to be former President Donald Trump, ever admitted to having knowledge of the virus’s origin. While all media outlets and rival politicians accused the President of being a racist, among other things, a former CDC Director is now coming out claiming the virus started exactly where Trump said.

On Friday, Former CDC Director Robert Redfield, made headlines when he broke his silence about his beliefs surrounding COVID-19. Talking to CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Redfield not only admitted that the virus most likely started in Wuhan, China, but it was also released around September or October of 2019.

It should be noted that Redfield was more than CDC Director, but he also worked closely under President Trump when it came to tackling the pandemic. He said, “If I was to guess, this virus started transmitting somewhere in September, October in Wuhan. That’s my own feelings. And only opinion. I’m allowed to have opinions now. The other people don’t believe that. That’s fine. Science will eventually figure it out. It’s not unusual for respiratory pathogens that are being worked on in a laboratory to infect the laboratory worker.”

This isn’t the first time a claim like this has been made about COVID-19. Not only did President Trump play a part in spreading the rumor about China, but even the World Health Organization investigated the likelihood of the virus starting in a lab. Their results showed that the virus most likely “did not” start from a lab, but details around the investigation have been called into question. While it was conducted by WHO, the organization did give Beijing power to veto any results they didn’t like. They rejected the findings of three scientists selected by the United States.

At the same time as the investigation, WHO scientist Peter Ben Embarek spread the false rumor that the coronavirus was started from a bat at a wet market. Even then Redfield insisted, “I do not believe this came from a bat to a human.”
