Austin, TX – 8 Immigrants were killed when the pickup truck they were in collided with an other vehicle during a police chase. Police were trying to conduct a traffic stop near the Texas border city Del Rio, but the pickup truck with the immigrants inside refused to pull over.
The collision occurred on US Highway 277 on Monday afternoon when police were chasing a red Dodge pickup truck that eventually collided with a white Ford F150 approximately 30 miles north of Del Rio. Everyone in the red Dodge pickup truck was in the United States illegally. The driver and the passenger in the Ford were both hospitalized and so was the one survivor inside the Dodge pickup truck.
Texas Department of Public Safety did not disclose what the traffic violation was that prompted the police chase.
All of the individuals who died inside the Dodge were from Mexico between the ages of 18 – 20.
Sebastian Tovar, the driver of the Dodge pickup truck attempted to flee but was later apprehended and taken into police custody. Additional charges are pending.
Earlier this month 13 people were killed attempting to come into the United States illegally through a portion of Border fence that was cut down in California. A Ford Expedition carrying 25 people crashed into a tractor trailer. Read the full story:
